Stealth Computer ships rugged 24-inch LCD monitor
by Donald Melanson, posted May 27th 2008 at 3:29PM While most rugged PCs are of the laptop or tablet variety these days, those wanting to lug around a bigger, more capable system now have new component to add to their rig courtesy of Stealth Computer, which has just trotted out what it claims to be the industry’s first rugged 24-inch lcd monitor with a touchscreen interface. That ruggedness comes courtesy of an all-steel enclosure, which promises to keep the LCD safe from water, dust and dirt, although Stealth doesn’t seem to be making any promises about drops. Otherwise, you can expect the usual 1920 x 1200 resolution, along with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms response time, DVI and VGA ports, an optional anti-reflective overlay, and even an optional capacitive touchscreen sensor. Sony Ericsson’s Paris; the leaked details continue

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 in gadgets.

While the latest round of details to surface for the Paris are not exactly as flattering as the rest, this should still prove to be a worthy handset. The new details that have come to light reveal a solid offering coming from SE. The P5 is a slider style phone with a QWERTY keyboard and will be UIQ based.

The handset also offers a touch sensitive display with one-touch screen rotation, the ability to browse or view bookmarks without sliding the handset open and one-touch zoom in/out navigation.

The Samsung based camera with auto-focus comes in at a nice 5-megapixels, and we can also expect to find Wi-Fi, an FM radio and standard Walkman player.

NTT DoCoMo Goes Mad With Releases

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 in gadgets.

NTT DoCoMo surely aims to impress with each new round of phone releases - this time they have rolled out 19 new cell phones in 64 body colors, hence you no longer have the excuse of not picking one up just because of the colors available (or rather, not). The two new series are the 906i and 706i, with the former consisting of eight handsets while the latter make up the rest. The 906i series will feature 3G/GSM international roaming, upgraded GPS location information, HSDPA, 1-Seg mobile TV support, and 2-phones-in-1 capability among others. Hmm, none of them seem to be of the candybar variety.

BlackBerry Pearl 8120 Review - the Washingtonpost

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 in gadgets.

The Washingtonpost reviews the blackberry Pearl 8120 and writes, “The 8120’s two-megapixel still camera took pretty good photos, especially in low-light situations where its built-in flash really made a difference.   And the device’s   software made it easy to crop a portrait for use as a thumbnail that appears on the screen when that person calls…The camera’s 5X digital zoom was not impressive, though, and while this is the first Pearl to capture video, the clip I shot was rather grainy when I played it back on my PC.”

NVIDIA Tegra Series To Come

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 in gadgets.

NVIDIA Tegra Series To Come
Guess NVIDIA hasn’t been resting on their laurels with whispers of a brand new line of chips in the works, nicknamed Tegra. Chances are this will be a System-on-a-Chip (SOC) solution that could very well be the NVIDIA and VIA collaboration in creating a platform that will cost no more than $45. In order to confirm such rumors, all one needs is patience, and thankfully there isn’t long to wait this time round as NVIDIA will issue an official statement regarding Tegra at the upcoming Computex ‘08 show in Taiwan this June 3rd. VIA OpenBook hands-on

VIA OpenBook hands-on
by Paul Miller, posted May 27th 2008 at 7:42AM We got to spend a little bit of time with a prototype of VIA’s new OpenBook reference design, and while it’s not going to revolutionize anything, VIA does seem to have a pretty good grasp on the balance of value, size and power necessary to compete in the subnotebook game. They were showing it off with Vista (though it will be available in XP and Linux versions as well), with an interface that was plenty responsive, and while the video we saw wasn’t an incredible display of multimedia showmanship, it was neat to see on the C7-M all the same. Samsung i640v Review - 3G

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 in gadgets.

3G reviews the Samsung i640v and writes, “The camera is a little disappointing too. At just two megapixels, it teeters on the edge of acceptability. A front-facing camera brings video calling within your reach though…The i640V has a fair amount going for it, including a long battery life and a usable keyboard. It is a bit large, though, and lacking high-end smartphone features like Wi-Fi and a decent camera.”
