Arkados software for iPhone

Written by admin on Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 in gadgets.

Arkados software for iPhone
Arkados has released a reference design for making interactive software for the iphone and ipod Touch, basically enabling you to control electronics in your house, such as turning on the fan in your living room even though you have not arrived home yet, and would come in especially handy if you want to cool down your home during those hot summer days. Unfortunately, Arkados has not reached that level of convenience just yet as they currently cater for just audio systems, letting you take control of your entire music library from room to room with the iPhone/iPod touch functioning as a remote control. Hopefully future iterations of the software will see a greater degree of functionality introduced. (Read the full post about ‘Arkados software for iPhone’…)

HP Partners with YouTube

HP Partners with YouTube
HP’s MediaSmart TVs will soon be able to view YouTube videos straight on the TV without the need for a keyboard and mouse, as all one needs would be a simple remote control. Since the MediaSmart line has already made accessing digital media content from networked home PCs a snap through a single menu, this new alliance with YouTube will bring even greater functionality to the big screen in your living room. All you need to do is have a YouTube account and you’re good to go. Perfect for those frat parties where watching short crazy videos are the norm, but a more serious family will probably find something else that is more fitting and cultured. Trace Me keeps track of luggage

Trace Me keeps track of luggage
I recently spent 12 hours flying from England to Singapore, then another five flying to Australia. If I’d disembarked the plane to find out my luggage hadn’t completed the journey, I would have been a little unimpressed, to say the least. In fact, (knock on wood!) I’m been very lucky in my travels so far: the one time my luggage was misplaced, the airline found and delivered it to my door the very next day. But that experience was enough of a scare for me to relate to the 37 million (thirty.seven. MILLION!) people who lose their luggage every year, and never get it back. Trace Me is a luggage tracking device that keeps your details on file, for life. (Read the full post about ‘Trace Me keeps track of luggage’…)

SIM Recovery Pro helps restore lost SIM data

SIM Recovery Pro helps restore lost SIM data
To erase data is human. And to want it restored is even more human. The SIM Recovery Pro apparently understands this “more human” need and helps you get back all those phone numbers or text messages that you deleted. This SIM card reader can retrieve lost SMSes and phonebook entries in “minutes”. It can also be used to program your SIM to allow fixed calls, to backup/edit the phonebook, and to print out SIM card information. All this without any effort being needed on that common headache called installation procedure, or so the product specs claim. Pretty useful if you habitually delete cellphone data. Only, look forward to possible surprises with this device as the specifications are vague and mention no specific figures in terms of performance. Windows XP SP3 finally Available

Windows XP SP3 finally Available
If you happen to rock on with Windows XP SP2, check out Windows Update today and download the 66MB Windows XP SP3. For folks who can’t be bothered, just wait a few more days and your computer ought to get that update downloaded assuming you’re into automatic updates. The SP3 experienced a delay since Microsoft found an incompatibility with its Dynamics Retail Management System. The majority of the SP3 changes are under the hood, and you’ll get new features such as Network Access Protection and Black Hole router detection. This will be the last Service Pack for the Windows XP folks, so it is time to start thinking about that ugly hook up with Vista in the forseeable future. Yahoo willing to reopen talks, was just kidding around about $37
by Paul Miller, posted May 6th 2008 at 8:43AM After the beating the company is taking in the stock market, and with several prominent investors stepping forward to express dissatisfaction with how things were handled, Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang says he was willing to discuss things further if Microsoft hadn’t turned its back on the offer. “We did not say it was a take-it-or-leave-it number in the sense that we would never negotiate any more,” he said, referring to the $37 figure. “We were totally willing to do a transaction, and they walked away.” Deep down we know he’s just miffed to be missing out on sleeping bag to sleeping bag discussions with Ballmer about adding an exclamation mark to Microsoft. StairSteady Handrail helps the elderly up and down

StairSteady Handrail helps the elderly up and down
I’m fortunate to be a fairly healthy guy, and feel bad for those that have difficulty getting around. While I could imagine that someone that relies on a wheelchair or cane would have a hard time just about anywhere, I would bet that the stairs are the worst. Now if those stairs are in their home, that would be even worse. Thankfully this cool device can help out those that have difficulty getting up and down stairs. This StairSteady Handrail was actually a GCSE coursework project that was later turned into a full-fledged product. Essentially what you have is a horizontal bar which runs along the handrail. This allows a person to evenly distribute their weight between both hands, rather than just relying on one. (Read the full post about ‘StairSteady Handrail helps the elderly up and down’…)
