Driver’s Ed for Nintendo DS

Written by admin on Thursday, May 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

Driver’s Ed for Nintendo DS
Every kid wants to learn how to drive a car before he or she even goes to school, but Driver’s Education is any kid’s least favorite class. I never thought driving could be made so boring. Fortunately, teenagers today can now learn Driver’s Education from this great game on the Nintendo DS called Drivers Ed Portable. Developed by DreamCatcher Games and JoWooD, it offers a “fun way for new drivers to study the material”. This game features two modes: Test and Train. The Test mode has some sample tests from all 50 states for the written part of the driver’s license examination. It also has tests from 13 Canadian provinces and territories, as well as tests from other countries such as Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Tangled wires make cool lamps

Tangled wires make cool lamps
I spent a few years of my life working as a networking technician, so I spent a good deal of time both running and re-organizing cabling. After working in such a position, I pride myself on my ability to keep the cabling in my house neat, organized and most importantly, untangled. However, designer Kwangho Lee has spent his days learning to tangle up wire. I didn’t think that it took any real amount of time to learn how to tangle cables, but I guess if you want to make it actually look cool, you’re going to need plenty of practice. The result of his hard work are these interesting lighting fixtures. These lamps started as an art project that sort of evolved on its own over time. NVIDIA is shaking up the parallel programming world

Written by admin on Thursday, May 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

Anyone who’s ever taken a course in computer programming knows how difficult it is to get a computer to do what you want it to. This is especially true for new developers, but also for even us “old timers” who have been doing it for years. Generally speaking at some point it no longer becomes a limitation of the programmer’s abilities that keep something from working the way it should, but rather limitations of the toolset, the operating system, the virtual engine, or a great many other things. In short, dying is easy, programming is hard.

Now, imagine taking that frustrating activity to the Nth degree with multiple cores.

RIAA “making available” piracy argument rejected in the courts

Written by admin on Thursday, May 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

As many of you may remember the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is currently suing Pamela and Jeffrey Howell for copyright infringement committed back in 2006 through Kazaa. The couple have argued that the music they had on their PC came from CDs they owned and did admit they had installed Kazaa. However, they also stated they did not intend to share the files with others and had not placed them within Kazaa’s shared folder.

Judge Wake, presiding over the case, had originally ruled in favor of the RIAA and ordered the Howells to pay US$40,850 in penalties.

LG 32LG5000 Review
The new LG 32LG5000 looks to be a very attractive mid size HDTV. The 32LG5000 has a nice price point of around £525, and it’s design speaks for it’s self. The high gloss black finish with subtle sliver line at the base makes the set look very much at home with highend, high price point HDTVs. The LG 32LG5000 has a 32-inch LCD screen resolution of 1366×768 pixels which is more than enough for a HDTV of this size. It also supports 1080p/24p from it’s three HDMI 1.3 inputs. 24p support on the set will provide smooth, true 24fps playback of film content for the best viewing. The HDMI 1.3 inputs also support Deep Color encoded content. (Read the full post about ‘LG 32LG5000 Review’…)

First Look: Asus m70 1TB Laptop
Well looky looky what we have here. Some say storage = snore-age. Know what? Those people are mostly right. Except when you get in the world’s first notebook that contains a grand freaking total of one terabyte (!) of hard disk space . First impressions? The m70 comes with Vista Home Premium (Meh.) and weighs a bone crushing 9-pounds. Seriously, it’s pushing the limits of portability. Asus still hasn’t gotten back to us yet about how much the unit’s price. Our IT guru said it’ll probably cost about $2500-$3000 considering the specs. To give you an idea of what it would take to fill up the hard drive, hit the jump to see the breakdown on how much porn, MP3s, DVDs, games, and pictures would be needed to fill the roomy storage.
