Seiko Slimstick

Seiko Slimstick
Recently, I have become fixated with devices that help you lose weight. Last week, it was the Tanita BC558. This week, the Seiko Slimstick, a more portable weight-loss device. The Seiko Slimstick is a more advanced version of those old-school pedometers that can count your steps. Just between you and me, I always thought those step-counters were kind of useless. Their accuracy was highly questionable, as they would register a step if they were shaken. Not only that, what good is it to discover how many steps you’ve taken in a day? I suppose you could convert that to miles, but most exercise programs are based on burning calories, not miles. (Read the full post about ‘Seiko Slimstick’…)

Omron Announces XF3A

Omron Announces XF3A
Omron’s newly announced XF3A is an ultra-slim 0.6-mm connector for FPCs (Flexible Printed Circuits) which will be available for purchase sometime this summer. Boasting an ultra-low profile, you also get a pitch of 0.3 mm, a height of 0.6 mm and a depth of 3.8 mm (when locked), which makes up for a stunning 33% reduction compared to previous Omron models. Somehow typing ‘Omron’ too many times often leads me to read it as ‘Moron’, but I digress. When available for purchase, the XF3A can pride itself in being the industry’s slimmest commercially available FPC connector with a backlock mechanism. Kiss Me lets you know if you need a mint

Kiss Me lets you know if you need a mint
Fresh breath is something you should have whenever you’re around another person. I don’t really care how your breath smells when you’re sitting at home by yourself, but the minute someone smells that foul odor coming out of your mouth, you can bet they’ll put as much distance between the two of you as possible. Usually if you brush your teeth and use some mouthwash at the appropriate times, you’re good to go, however, there are some times where you want to be extra sure. That’s when you’ll turn to the Kiss Me. The Kiss Me Personal Bad Breath Detector is simple, just breath on it, and LEDs will light up to indicate just rank your breath is. Haptic Feedback Coming To iPhone?

Haptic Feedback Coming To iPhone?
Haptic feedback would go a long way to silencing complaints about the iPhone’s on-screen keyboard. If it worked, that is. I tried out several force-feedback handsets at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and was consistently disappointed. The only advantage is that you know the phone has recognized your button press. The small vibrations do nothing to help you navigate a keyboard by touch. In short, current haptics do nothing that a click or beep couldn’t do. That hasn’t stopped loose-lipped execs from Immersion Corporation bragging that their company is in talks with Apple about a licensing deal. Immersion provides haptic solutions to many phone companies already. (Read the full post about ‘Haptic Feedback Coming To iPhone?’…)

Nokia N810 WiMax Edition gets listed, priced at Buy.com

Nokia N810 WiMax Edition gets listed, priced at Buy.com
Buy.com has already listed the Nokia N810 WiMax Edition on their site. The N810 is currently listed for $455 with a suggested retail of $479, but as we would expect, is not currently in stock. The listing, although a little early seems to fit the time frame as Nokia announced it would be available beginning in the summer of 2008, however we cannot help but remember that the WiMax coverage would be delayed. Think I can hold off buying a device that is built specifically for a technology that is not even available. 3D monitors below $600 at 1680×1050

Written by admin on Monday, April 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

A company called iZ3D is manufacturing a 22″ 3D monitor capable of a 1680×1050 resolution, 250 nit brightness and 700:1 contrast. The viewing angle isn’t the best at 120 and 90 degrees, but it’s close enough for the target audience: gamers. iZ3D has a list of supported games which allow for an immediate immersion in 3D without changing anything.

The monitors work in the same way many 3D movies do, through the use of polarized light. A video signal is sent to the monitor for the right-eye, and another for the left-eye. The display angles are generated by a video card and are displayed via the polarized light.

Weekend Washbag - For Him

Weekend Washbag - For Him
Weekend Washbag - For Him I’ve never done it myself, of course, but crashing out on the floor of a chum’s flat can be a soul-destroying experience, particularly if it’s on a school night and you find yourself facing a slog to work the next morning, unshaven, unkempt and reeking of stale cider. See price (Read the full post about ‘Weekend Washbag - For Him’…)

RIM Wants To Compete With iPhone

RIM Wants To Compete With iPhone
RIM apparently has a product in the making known as AK - which obviously enough, stands for “Apple Killer”. It will, of course be a touch screen device and RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis let fire his salvo, “I couldn’t type on [the iphone] and I still can’t type on it, and a lot of my friends can’t type on it. It’s hard to type on a piece of glass.” It would be interesting to see what kind of blackberry that will end up as. I know the consumers are just going to so love such competition. Cool gadgets the laser pointers

Written by admin on Monday, April 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

Cool gadgets the laser pointers
A laser pointer is a small (often battery-operated) laser device designed for pointing at objects by illuminating them with a collimated visible laser beam. The typical use of a hand-held laser pointer is to point at some screen or chart during a presentation. The output power of a laser pointer is measured in milliwatts (mW). The laser pointer is generated by combining three different beams in three orthogonal transverse modes, two of them in a squeezed-vacuum state and one in an intense coherent field. A basic low power office type laser pointer is still clearly visible in a brightly lit room at distances over 100 feet. (Read the full post about ‘Cool gadgets the laser pointers’…)
