ProBattery Universal Laptop Back-up Battery
Promate has released a universal laptop back-up battery known as ProBattery, and it ought to last you for quite some time considering it is capable of handling over 10,000 discharge cycles and can be charged during use. Features include an integrated USB output that also turns it into an impromptu charger for USB-chargeable devices such as MP3 players as well as cell phones. Dell unveils tiny bamboo-cased eco-computer concept
by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 6:42PM Michael Dell spoke at Fortune’s Brainstorm:Green conference today, and he took the wraps off this funky bamboo-encased eco-PC concept. Said to be Dell’s smallest-ever computer, the machine is 81 percent smaller than a standard desktop and uses 70 percent less power. There’s no word on what’s inside yet, but Dell says the machine is due to be released later this year, and should cost between $500 and $700. Hit the read link for a couple more shots, and check out a render after the break. (Read the full post about ‘Dell unveils tiny bamboo-cased eco-computer concept’…)

SawStop Table Saw

SawStop Table Saw
I suppose anyone using one of those biometric hard drives would do well to own this SawStop Table Saw. It boasts a safety system that stops and retracts the blade within 5 milliseconds upon accidental contact, greatly reducing the severity of user injury (and a severed digit which would then be a catastrophe, I might add). The price to pay for such safety? $1,500 a pop. (Read the full post about ‘SawStop Table Saw’…)

Thieves use Eee PC in Brazilian ATM scam
by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 7:14PM Man, that tiny Eee PC can be used for just about anything: surfing the web, blogging, surreptitiously hiding inside an ATM machine and stealing your identity. You know, the usual stuff. Yeah, so three creative Brazilian thieves were recently caught stuffing a black Eee into an ATM, where it replaced the ordinary magical-money-making workings and instead stole unwitting customers’ card numbers and PINs. The thieves didn’t stop there, however — they purposefully damaged all the other nearby ATMs so that theirs would be the only one in service. Clever! Of course, that doesn’t explain why it was so easy to crack open the target ATM in the first place — (Read the full post about ‘Thieves use Eee PC in Brazilian ATM scam’…)

Dutch Woo Wozniak By Lifting Segway Ban

Dutch Woo Wozniak By Lifting Segway Ban
The Dutch have decided to lift their ban on the Segway. Ever since its launch in 2001, the self-balancing nerd-mobile has been outlawed in Holland due to concerns of safety. Now, though, Woz-wannabees can cruise on roads and cycle-paths at up to 25 kph (16mph) and disabled users can roll down sidewalks at a maximum of 6kph (4mph). Users will need to be over sixteen and carrying vehicle insurance, and there may also be a requirement for license plates. It’s odd that the normally permissive Dutch took such exception to the harmless Segway. It’s easy to drive and almost impossible to fall off: Perfect for a trip home from the local coffee shop. 3K Longitude 400 Mini-Notebook — you’ll never guess what this reminds us of
by Paul Miller, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 3:33PM Alright peoples, how many Eee PC knockoffs do we really need? Is 10 enough? How about 100? There seems to be no end in sight, and here comes the relatively unknown 3K Computers to give it a whirl. We’d say the first mistake is the 7-inch screen, gotsa stay ahead of the curve. Pair that with the 400MHz processor and a $400 pricetag and we haven’t the slightest idea why we’d go in for this little Linux-based boringbook. Oh, wait… (Read the full post about ‘3K Longitude 400 Mini-Notebook — you’ll never guess what this reminds us of’…)

Toshiba gets official with five new Satellite Pro laptops
by Darren Murph, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 8:00AM We’re not quite sure how much more official-er Toshiba could really get with its freshest lineup of Satellite Pro laptops, but five “new” models are being trumpeted today as the latest in its ever-expanding family of business essential lappies. Up first, we have the 15.4-inch L300 / L300D, which arrives with Intel Core 2 Duo / AMD dual-core CPUs (respectively), a TruBrite display, 802.11a/b/g WiFi and an integrated webcam with microphone. Also on tap is the 14.1-inch M300, 13.3-inch U400 and the beastly 17-inch L350. We won’t bore you with specifications you’ve already committed to memory, but needless to say, any of the aforesaid machines are readily available and boast starting prices between $699 and $1,149. Photo Frame Speakers

Photo Frame Speakers
Do you see a pair of speakers in the image on the right? Yeah, I was fooled at first glance too, until I realized that a pair of Photo Frame Speakers were actually sitting camouflaged. These USB-powered speakers also double up as standard photo frames, where you will be able to place your favorite 4″ x 6″ memories within. The speakers are located behind, which means sound will travel away from you instead of towards you. It would’ve been cool if the Photo Frame Speakers came with lcd panels though, but that would definitely push up its price way beyond the $50 point. Shoe Vending Machine

Written by admin on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 in gadgets.

Shoe Vending Machine
Can things get any weirder? The Shoe Vending Machine that you see here serves up shoes, although I wouldn’t classify footwear as one of those common impulse purchases one makes oh-so-often. I mean, look at all these people in the picture. They don’t look poor enough to be walking around town without some sort of footwear, do they? And it must be a pretty darn clean city to boot - check out the dude’s soles that are still prim and proper despite getting about on those soles. Each Shoe Vending Machine holds two dozen pairs in six different sizes. (Read the full post about ‘Shoe Vending Machine’…)
