The unique watch with mechanical ‘digital’ displayApr 17, 2008
If you consider that Di Grisogono Meccanica DG is a hybrid mechanical-digital watch, then you are wrong. This is a limited-edition line of the watch that includes just 177 amazing models.

It is remarkable, that the watch consists of 651 pieces and there are no digital parts or LEDs. The gadget was presented as the world’s most complicated digital-analog watch. Anyway, the digital display is mechanical and is made of rolling tubes that form the digital segments.

This is the description of the work of the watch:
The gadget’s digital display is mechanically operated, it shows tens of hours, single hours, tens of minutes and, of course, single minutes. (Read the full post about ‘The unique watch with mechanical ‘digital’ display’…)

HP 2133 Mini-Note getting XP install option in mid-May
by Donald Melanson, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 2:25PM While there’s of course nothing to stop you from doing a fresh install of Windows XP on your brand new HP 2133 Mini-Note yourself (assuming you’re actually able to get your hands on one), those looking for a simpler solution will apparently be able to get their fix in mid-May, which is when the company will reportedly start to offer XP pre-installed on the ultraportable. What’s more, according to Laptop Magazine, there could also be a fully configurable version available “in the coming weeks or months,” although exact details on that possibility apparently haven’t quite firmed up yet. Handwriting Recognition Comes To The iPhone

Handwriting Recognition Comes To The iPhone
Chinese developer iPhone Cake has added handwriting recognition to the iPhone. HWPen works in both Chinese and Latin alphabets, and it works pretty well. The native application (for jailbroken iPhones only), adds an extra button to the keyboard screen. Tap it and you get the screen above, which lets you write on the screen with your finger. Because it integrates with the native text input of the iphone, HWPen is available anywhere you would normally use the keyboard. It even works with the iPhone’s auto-complete function, so you can start to type a word and hit the spacebar to pick spelling suggestions. The application tries it’s best with full words, but works better if you enter a letter at a time. (Read the full post about ‘Handwriting Recognition Comes To The iPhone’…)

OS X made to run on a Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium

OS X made to run on a Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium
by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 4:31PM With all the Psystar-related drama going on in the OSx86 scene this week, it’s easy to overlook the fact that people are doing some pretty wild things with the community-led project — we’ve already seen OS X boot on a Sony Vaio UX, and now the crew at jkOnTheRun have managed to shoehorn it on to a Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium UMPC. The Q1’s 1.33GHz Core Solo and upgraded 2GB of RAM are enough to run Leopard smoothly, it seems — Apple sold Mac Minis with similar specs a while back, after all — and while not everything works exactly right, it appears the digitizer is recognized, allowing Ink to work. ViewSonic tries real hard with $499 PJ513DB projector

ViewSonic tries real hard with $499 PJ513DB projector
by Darren Murph, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 4:00PM We applaud the effort, we really do, but even $499 for a projector touting a lowly 800 x 600 native resolution, 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 2,200 lumens is a tad steep in our eyes. Then again, you’ll likely find ViewSonic’s 5-pound PJ513DB marginally cheaper on the street, and of course, it’s quite obvious the outfit was aiming this one at those deep-pocketed boardroom bigwigs and district superintendents. Nevertheless, this DLP PJ promises to toss up a visible image even in well-lit rooms, and you’ll find composite / S-Video / component inputs ’round back to go along with the VGA in / out ports and the audio input. Parrot Party Black Edition Gets NFC
The Parrot Party Black Edition speaker system has just received a minor upgrade that enables it to function with the recently announced Nokia 6212 Classic cell phone, courtesy of integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The Parrot Party Black Edition will roll out this summer for £79. (Read the full post about ‘Parrot Party Black Edition Gets NFC’…)

New Wii homebrew hack unlocks region-free gaming
by Paul Miller, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 10:27AM Homebrew coders over at TehSkeen have manged the near-ultimate hacker achievement of enabling region-free gaming on the Wii via a software hack — no mod chips or Freeloader disc required. Implementation of Gecko Region Free couldn’t be simpler: you just load boot.elf from the chain loader, stick in your Wii game and hit reset. The hack claims to have borrowed zero code from Nintendo or Datel, making this pure homebrew. (Read the full post about ‘New Wii homebrew hack unlocks region-free gaming’…)
