Mossberg just kidding about that whole “3G iPhone in 60 days” thing
Posted Apr 8th 2008 3:42PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: cellphones Oh Unkie Walt, you toy with us so. Just a couple days after promising that the 3G iPhone would be out within 60 days, the Moss-man is saying that he was simply making a prediction based on the same data as the rest of us: price cuts, dried-up inventory, and all kinds of rumors. That’s not at all what it seems like on the tape, but sure. (Read the full post about ‘Mossberg just kidding about that whole “3G iPhone in 60 days” thing’…)

Gmail Rant: A few features that would make my life easier

Gmail Rant: A few features that would make my life easier
With any product or service, there’s always going to be room for growth (and complaints).  Below are a few Gmail features I think would make my life, and possibly some others lives easier. Ability to Mark ONE Email in a Conversation as Unread You’re scanning through your email, and get to one that you want to come back to later.  What do you do?  Mark it “Unread”, of course.  One of my biggest pet peeves in Gmail is how they won’t let you mark ONE email as Unread—you have to mark the whole conversation as unread.  Then, when you go back to that email later, you have to scroll through all of the old threads in the conversation to get to the only email you wanted to see.  The backbone for such a feature is already there, since when a new email comes in, only that one new email is unread in the conversation.  So why don’t they make the quick change an enable this feature?  Does this bother anyone else? Thoughts on HP’s Mini-Note laptop for kids
HP has unveiled its entry into the “laptop for kids” market with a machine called the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC. The machine is a direct competitor to Intel’s Classmate laptop and Asus’s Eee PC, but with some major differences in hardware. The Mini-Note will have a VIA processor at its core with options up to 1.6 Ghz speeds and between 512-2048 MB of RAM. The machine itself will weigh just over 2.5 pounds and comes with an 8.9 inch WXGA screen supported by VIA Chrome 9 UMA graphics and either a 4 GB Flash module or a 120 GB standard hard drive. It will also have an OS option of Linux or Windows Vista. (Read the full post about ‘Thoughts on HP’s Mini-Note laptop for kids’…)

LG announces new Black Label Series handset, up for worldwide release soon
LG Korea has announced a shiny new Black mobile phone which is expected to be released under its Black Label Series of handsets. The new LG phone, which is still without a name, is a slim slider style phone and could probably be a follow up to the LG Chocolate or LG Shine, or perhaps even a new model of its own. There’s not too many details on the LG announcement about the new phone except the press image and a mention that it will have a 5-megapixel camera. In addition, the new LG phone would also sport a carbon fiber and tampered glass body finish. The new LG phone is slated for worldwide release on April 24th. Until then, we could only guess as to how LG is going to name this new handset. (Read the full post about ‘LG announces new Black Label Series handset, up for worldwide release soon’…)

Fuel Cells to Power Your Gadgets Within a Year?

Fuel Cells to Power Your Gadgets Within a Year?
After cranking out a series of working fuel cell prototypes for digital cameras last year, one company says it’s finally ready to start mass-producing the methanol-based cells. Indeed, if MTI Micro has its way, these diminutive cells will start showing up in laptops, cell phones and digital cameras by 2009. CEO Peng Lim gives a pretty compelling case for why gadget addicts shouldn’t shed any tears for lithium ion batteries, too. “The main advantage of fuel cells is that they will last twice as long as a battery pack of the same size. … And the recharge time is almost nonexistent,” Lim told News.com. “Powering up a fuel cell-based phone only requires squirting in some new fuel or putting in a new cartridge.” Not bad…save the fuel squirting bit, which sounds kind of impractical. Iogear Portable Media Player

Written by admin on Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 in gadgets.

Iogear has gotten itself into the portable media player game with its very own 120GB device that functions like a video library in a box, holding up to 50 hours worth of DVD-quality video in a portable package. Also known by its unpronounceable model name, GMD2025U120, this PMP strangely lacks a color or external display as it is meant to be connected to a TV set whenever you want to play digital media files. It also boasts upscaling capability up to 720p resolution, but it remains to be seen whether the upconversion yields a decent quality image or not. Supported formats include MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX and Xvid.

LED Dog Tail Communicator

Written by admin on Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 in gadgets.

As the owner of a Labrador Retriever, I have to give this product some credit. After all, what dog owner doesn’t want to know what his or her dog is trying to say?

Unfortunately, this device is just a concept, probably because perfection of this technology would change the world as we know it. This LED Dog Tail Communicator is designed by James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau, and is on display at the Modern Museum of Art in New York City for the Elastic Mind exhibition.

As you can see, the tech works by LED lights that somehow blink as something gets waved. It’s the same technology that the USB Magic Wand uses.
