The Sidekick/Grammy Tour kicks off in Chicago with John Legend
I just got back from Chicago yesterday afternoon after fulfilling my duties as a Sidekick Roadie. Those duties included meeting the artists, hanging out with the VIP winners, and having too much fun. Colbie Caillat, Cat Power, and John Legend put on a great show and it looks like everyone had fun. I’m sure T-Mobile will have all sorts of pictures and video up on www.sidekick.com shortly. If you want to read about the trip, head over to the Tour blog where I’m posting about my experience going on tour with T-Mobile. If you’re in New York, we’ll be heading into town next week so look out! (Read the full post about ‘The Sidekick/Grammy Tour kicks off in Chicago with John Legend’…)

Bulbdial Clock

Bulbdial Clock

I don’t know if you ever notice our “categories” for Coolest gadgets, but many of them are pretty descriptive. One of them is “Cool Clocks”, and when I saw the Bulbdial clock, I knew I just had to write about it under that category. As you can see, the Bulbidal is an electric clock that thinks it is a sundial. Instead of using the natural energy of the sun, it uses miniature streetlights that spin around the post. There is an hour hand, a minute hand, and a fast moving second hand. All these combine to give you a time that is a lot more accurate than your everyday sundial. This design was created by a DIY creator/blogger David on Ironic Sans. (Read the full post about ‘Bulbdial Clock’…)

Alltop - the (gadget) blog aggregator

If after reading CG you still find yourself craving for even more gadget news check out gadgets.alltop.com, an aggregation of all the top gadget blogs. Along with gadgets Alltop has sections for other popular blogging niches (Gaming, Politics, Photography etc.). Though why you’d want to stray away from gadgets and tech I don’t know. This post maybe somewhat on the biased side, as Alltop is a project by Guy Kawasaki and I’m currently sat in a room listening to him. Kyocera may not be a well known mobile manufacturer but it sure does know how to make its presence felt in this already crowded mobile phone industry. So, when it decided to release a new mobile handset, it announced not just one but three new models, all running on CDMA networks – the Neo E1100, Mako S4000 and the Adreno S2400.

Unfortunately aside from the weird sounding branding that goes with each of these mobile phones, Kyocera didn’t include many innovative features. In brief, here’s a lowdown on each of the new phones from Kyocera.

Mozilla releases final Firefox 3 beta

Mozilla releases final Firefox 3 beta
Mozilla has released what will be the final beta version of Firefox 3, which comes in the form of Firefox 3 Beta 5. While normally we would not get this excited over such a small jump, because going from beta 4 to beta 5 should not result in excitement. According to the release notes there has been over 750 changes since beta 4 became available, most of which comes not as new features but bug fixes, which should make any current Firefox 3 user consider moving up. That is especially true for any OS X users because that pesky jfif issue with copying images from the web has been fixed. Oh, and we cannot forget, there is a new initial launch splash screen to marvel at. (Read the full post about ‘Mozilla releases final Firefox 3 beta’…)

XP can’t be saved–going away June 30th

Written by admin on Saturday, April 5th, 2008 in gadgets.

According to the All About Microsoft blog, Microsoft has officially confirmed that you will no longer be able to purchase a copy of Windows XP after June 30th.

This was the original date set in the Windows Life-Cycle Policy, and the only exceptions are shipping in Ultra Low-Cost PCs, like the Asus Eee, or shipping preloaded on new machines. The ULPCs exception ends on June 30, 2010, or one year after the next version of Windows is available, whichever comes first.

Dell to cut even more jobs as it reduces costs
Posted Apr 3rd 2008 9:49PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Misc. gadgetsLooks like Dell’s plan to trim $3B in costs from its budget is going to involve even more job cuts than the 8,800 already announced — speaking to analysts today, Michael Dell said that his company’s management had “identified a very significant opportunity” to cut costs, and that it was “aggressively going after it.” That means even more jobs will be slashed, apparently — a further 1,000 this quarter at least, but Dell wouldn’t say what the total would be in the end, just that it would be more than 8,800. Screen grabs: Matt Saracen has iPhone trouble, is still really cute
Posted Apr 3rd 2008 11:07PM by Paul MillerFiled under: cellphonesScreen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today’s movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com. Poor Matt, this guy has it so hard. If he isn’t having relational trouble with Julie Taylor, he’s disappointing his dad, his coach (Julie’s dad, conveniently enough), his team, or the entire town of Dillon, Texas. Last thing the guy needs is an iphone telling him he’s wrong, so we’re going to pin this Friday Night Lights upside-down incident on Zach Gilford, the man behind the cute-shy quarterback legend that is Matt Saracen. You disappoint us, Zach. (Read the full post about ‘Screen grabs: Matt Saracen has iPhone trouble, is still really cute’…)
