BenQ T60 Announced
BenQ just released more information on its T60 cell phone that manages to cram in a 2.2″ LCD display at 320 x 240 resolution and a 3.2 megapixel camera into a body that measures just 8.9mm thin. BenQ aims for the T60 to be a fashion handset, which makes perfect sense for its software to include a caller black list function - after all, you can’t be seen hanging out with sore losers in the eyes of society whenever you go out, right? Other features include :- Integrated FM radio tuner 24MB internal memory microSD memory card slot Support for common audio and video file formats Bluetooth 2.0 connectivityThe battery life is very disappointing though, as you get the maximum of 2.5 hours of talk time, while standby time has been rated at 200 hours. Sega dissolves Korean subsidiary, nixing $330m Yokohama arcade complex
Posted Apr 1st 2008 1:21AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Gaming Aside from planning to axe 400 jobs as part of Sega Sammy’s most recent “turnaround efforts,” the outfit will also be closing the doors to its Korean subsidiary. Currently, Sega Korea is “handling the domestic distribution and sales of video game software, as well as the operation / sales of amusement facilities and machines,” and reportedly, the closure will be executed in the name of “global business optimization.” As it stands, there’s no set date for the branch’s dissolution, but just in case your smile wasn’t turned upside-down already, the company also stated that it would discontinue the development of a ginormous $330m arcade complex slated for construction in Yokohama, Japan — if you couldn’t guess, that one’s being shuttered so the firm can “focus its efforts on its core business to improve its performance” in short order. The World’s Oldest Photograph Could Be More Ancient Than Thought

The World’s Oldest Photograph Could Be More Ancient Than Thought
This photograph (or photogenic drawing) of a leaf is currently attributed to one of the fathers of photography, William Henry Fox Talbot. It could, however, have been produced 30 years earlier by another Briton, Thomas Wedgwood. The new evidence comes from auction house Sotheby’s, so it could just be speculation to boost the sale price of the picture, originally thought to have been produced in 1839. If Wedgewood did make the picture (in 1805 or earlier), it would rewrite photographic history. The leaf picture is not a photograph as we know it today. The leaf would have been placed onto paper coated with light-sensitive chemicals and exposed by the Sun for several hours. Intel breaks Wind with first Atom-based ultra-portables in the wild
Posted Apr 1st 2008 9:31AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Laptops There you have it, the first laptop we’ve seen running Intel’s long awaited Atom processors. We’re pretty sure that’s MSI’s Wind PC on display in Shanghai for Intel’s Developer Forum. Of course, we’ve already seen Atom listed as the CPU in the G10IL and new 8.9-inch Eee PC among others. But there’s nothing like seeing the genuine article running on Intel’s newest silicon. If you’re a fan of the Eee PC form factor then you’ll be stoked by what looks like a truck-load of 7- to 9-inch ultra-portables on way. Vivitar Camcorder and Nokia Phone: Separated at Birth?

Vivitar Camcorder and Nokia Phone: Separated at Birth?
Vivitar’s new hi-def pocket camcorder, the 565HD, looks very familiar (it’s the one on the right, in case you’re having trouble). It’s definitely a budget model, with few fancy features to get in the way. The 720p camera records straight to h.264 at 30 frames per second and stores movies on an SD card. Playback is via a nice big 3" LCD screen or through the supplied HDMI cable. The only other information we have is possibly the most important in this low-end range of the market: color. The camera will come in black or silver. If it is cheap and good, this pocket-sized HD cam could be a winner. Just don’t try to make any phone calls with it. Samsung lets loose Blue Wave 3 firmware update for P2, T10 PMPs
Posted Apr 1st 2008 11:42AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Portable Audio, Portable Video Samsung’s first two “Blue Wave” firmware updates for its P2 and T10 PMPs came in relatively quick succession, but it’s taken a bit longer for the third one to make its way out the door. Those in Korea can now give their players another boost, however, with the new Blue Wave 3 update apparently available for the taking. On the P2, that’ll give you four new GUI themes, along with a new full screen mode, a calculator and dictionary, and new brightness and speed controls for video playback. The T10, on the other hand, will get a full ten new themes, along with three new games, a video bookmarking feature, horizontal viewing and AAC support, and the ability to delete files on the device itself. How To OverClock and Kill a Flashgun

How To OverClock and Kill a Flashgun
“Overclocking” might not be exactly the right word for boosting a strobe’s output but, as you can see above, it carries the same dangers to your kit. David Hobby of the excellent Strobist got a tip-off from an MIT student, detailing a secret diagnostic mode in certain Nikon Speedlights (those using the NEC 40-108 processor). Press the buttons in the right order (like entering the cheat mode in Streetfighter II) and you’ll arrive at the engineer’s test functions. One of these lets you keep pushing juice into the capacitor by cycling the power switch. According to David, the regular output is 60 watt-seconds, but the flash can be boosted by another 60 watt-seconds every time you switch it off and on again. Chumby expanding concept to WiFi Tvs?
You might recall my earlier post, the one that rather irked a Chumby employee about how I thought the device has yet to break stride.  I am still excited by the device and still cannot wait to see what they come up with next.  Turns out, we may not have to wait that long thanks to some substantial ($12.5 million) financing in Series B venture funding. “We are pleased to receive this financing which will enable us to execute our vision and grow distribution of the Chumby Network,” said Stephen Tomlin, CEO and founder, Chumby Industries.
